AN American tourist has died after a fall at the Giant's Causeway visitor centre.

It is understood the man was aged in his 70s and was on holiday with his wife.

The Ambulance Service said it attended a call to the visitor centre at shortly after 11am on Tuesday morning.

The man was transported to Causeway Hospital but died yesterday from his injuries.

It is understood the family are currently receiving support from the American Consulate in Belfast.

A spokeswoman for the National Trust said: "We can confirm that a visitor was treated following an incident at the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre on Tuesday June 19.

"The NI Ambulance Service was in attendance and the visitor was taken to hospital. We have no further details available at this time."

Pádraig McShane, an Independent Councillor in Causeway Coast and Glens, offered his sympathies to the family of the man who died.
