A CHARITY watchdog has launched an inquiry into a homeless shelter in Belfast.

The investigation will focus on the Divis Street-based Morning Star House hostel, which provides temporary accommodation for homeless men and has 39 residents.

In a statement, the Charity Commission said the investigation relates to concerns about "governance and administration of the charity, with a focus on safeguarding."

Specific details of what the investigation relates to have not been released.

The Charity Commission has the power to open a statutory inquiry to identify and investigate apparent misconduct or mismanagement at a charity.

Morning Star House meanwhile has declined to comment.
