THE funeral of 27-year-old Karl Heaney, who died in a road crash on the way home from training with his GAA club, will take place tomorrow in Newry.

Mr Heaney died on at 11.30pm on Wednesday when his silver Ford Fusion was involved in a collision with a black Kia Ceed in the Belfast-bound lane of the dual carriageway.

The Newry Mitchels senior player had just returned to training after being out with an injury.

His body is being waked at Oaklands on Old Warrenpoint Road, the home of his parents Michael and Monica Heaney.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated on tomorrow at 2pm in St. Mary’s Church, Chapel Street, with burial afterwards in Monkshill cemetery.

He is survived by his parents and sisters of Carina, Tara and Aoife, his partner Ciara and grandfather of Joe.
