A SHOP assistant had a knife held to her during an armed robbery in west Belfast.

Shortly after 6am today, a man brandishing a knife entered a shop on Lanark Way.

Police said the man "held a knife to a female staff member, and demanded she open the tills.

Before leaving the shop with a sum of cash, the armed man threatened another member of staff.

Police said there were three members of staff on the premises and while none were physically injured during the ordeal, "they have been left shaken".

The armed man, who had his face covered, was wearing a medium length, puffa-style coat, dark navy or black stripe track bottoms, and black trainers with a white top.

Police have appealed for information about the incident.
