THE Belfast Bike scheme is seeking a new sponsor.

Launched in 2015, until recently, the hugely popular bike scheme with 40 stations terminals around the city had been sponsored by Coca Cola Zero.

Belfast City Council has said that as well as bids for a sole sponsor there is an opportunity for multiple sponsors.

A bidders’ event will be held at Belfast City Council’s offices at Adelaide Street next Thursday, April 26, at which businesses can find out more about the different options available.

Belfast mayor Nuala McAllister encouraged both small and large businesses to consider backing the scheme.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for businesses to support an environmentally-friendly, inexpensive and healthy mode of transport in our city," she said.

"Belfast Bikes has enjoyed a hugely successful three years to date and the popularity and demand for growth speaks volumes. It’s great to be able to share this success and give large organisations as well as smaller businesses a chance to get involved in such a positive initiative.

"As a council, we are committed to supporting the scheme and continued sponsorship will further help with its maintenance, operation and potential expansion".
