THE family of a teenage boy have hit out at a Co Armagh school after pupils were provided with information promoting a gay youth forum.

The parents, who do not want to be named, claim information was distributed at St Patrick’s Grammar School in Armagh calling on students to attend the Northern Ireland LGBTQ+ Youth Forum event in Belfast this weekend.

The event is being organised by a group that offers support to members of the LGBT community.

The family’s solicitor contacted the school amid claims the boy was asked by a teacher to place a poster promoting the event, which is believed to have been produced by the organisers, in a classroom.

It is understood the student refused to follow the instruction and later told his parents.

The boy’s father last night spoke of his concern that children were being provided with information about the event.

“On several levels I object to this, we are sending our children to get a Catholic education in a renowned Catholic school,” he said.

“It's promoting a lifestyle that we vehemently disagree with.”

Solicitor Aiden Carlin has written to the school “seeking an undertaking that this will not be repeated”.

The school declined to comment.
