AN alleged 'paedophile hunter' has been released on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, attempted intimidation and assault.

South Belfast woman Sharon Shanks, who uses the alias Chelsea Lewis, is the suspected leader of a group that calls itself 'Justice Reborn Northern Ireland'.

Police said a 36-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of a number of alleged offences but was later released on police bail.

On Wednesday, alleged paedophile hunter George Keenan (34) was returned to custody after breaching bail conditions banning him from accessing social media platforms.

There are several self-styled paedophile hunter groups currently operating in the north.

More than 100 'stings' carried out by the vigilantes have been reported to the PSNI, but there have been no convictions to date.

Police have appealed to so-called paedophile hunters to desist from confronting alleged abusers.
