DERRY Girls star Jamie-Lee O'Donnell surprised fans yesterday after turning up to open of a newly-refurbished Lidl store in the south of her home county.

The 26 year-old who plays the street-smart, foul-mouthed Michelle in the hit series, said she was "thrilled" to help cut the ribbon in Magherafelt of the new store which has brought 12 more jobs to the south Derry town.

Eager shoppers, who had waited five months for this moment, were queuing to get into the remodelled store.

To celebrate the opening, Lidl welcomed representatives from St Mary's Primary School and the Rainey Endowed School in Magherafelt to the store and presented them with a donation of £250 each.

“I'm thrilled to be at Lidl in Magherafelt today to help them open their new look store. Magherafelt is a vibrant community and it is fantastic to see new jobs being created for people in the area," the actress said.

Store manager Richard Mailey said customers can expect "a greater shopping experience as well as a wide range of high quality products at fantastic value".

"The whole team is looking forward to welcoming both new and existing customers alike into the store over the coming weeks," he added.
