The Travelling community paid a colourful farewell to one of the McDonagh clan in Belfast yesterday.

Gerry McDonagh's remains were reposing in a Donegall Street funeral home before his cortege departed for Sligo, where his funeral will be held.

Several caravans containing Traveller families who had arrived from England set up temporary home in Donegall Street from Monday evening.

Groups of men were also seen congregating on the city centre street, with some drinking alcohol.

A large crowd dressed in matching black caps gathered to accompany the cortege as it left the city.

It is understood that Mr McDonagh, who was in his 30s and had lived in Belfast for a time, will be buried in Co Mayo.

Police were in attendance and spoke to the men but declined to comment last night.
