Work on £200,000 A1 safety measures to begin
CROSSING points across a section of the A1 dual carriageway at Banbridge in Co Down are due to be closed to enable the start of a £200,000 road safety improvement scheme.
A central reserve safety barrier is set to be installed between Springwell Loanin and Bannview Road Bridge on the Banbridge bypass.
The Department of Infrastructure said the work will begin on Sunday and is expected to last three weeks.
The department said the scheme would "greatly improve road safety along this extremely busy stretch of the A1", which is used by around 30,000 motorists every day.
It said all crossing points along the central reserve of this particular stretch of the A1 will be closed to facilitate the installation of the barrier.
Among the temporary traffic arrangements along the route will be a 40mph speed restriction and lane closures adjacent to the central median in both the northbound and southbound carriageways.
Lane closures are scheduled to take place overnight, between 7.30pm and 6am from Monday to Friday and all day at the weekend.
