A 62-YEAR-OLD man who died after his car left the road and struck a tree in Co Armagh has been named.

The man was Arthur Patrick Lavery from the Poyntzpass area.

The crash happened at around 2.45pm on Thursday on Bessbrook Road, where it meets the Gosford Road, near Markethill.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

Detectives are also appealing for information following a suspected hit and run in east Belfast on Wednesday night.

The woman and young girl were knocked down at a pedestrian crossing on Newtownards Road at around 8pm.

They received medical treatment and their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The black car failed to stop at the scene and left in the direction of Dundonald.
