Family left shaken after masked gang gather outside home

The occupants of a house in Derry were left badly shaken following the latest paramilitary-style incident in the city.

PSNI inspector Ian Hunt said a number of masked men, one possibly armed with a firearm, gathered outside a house at O’Casey Court in the Ballymagroarty area shortly before 10pm on Wednesday.

“Three people in the property, including two females, aged in their 60s and 40s, and a vulnerable young boy were uninjured in the incident. However, this was a frightening ordeal for the occupants who were left shaken," he said.

Police have recorded a significant rise in the number of paramilitary style incidents, including shootings, in Derry in recent months.

Following a shooting in the city’s Shantallow area earlier this month police revealed there had been 15 paramilitary shootings since the start of the year.

Both the SDLP and Sinn Féin in Derry have called on police to increase efforts to deal with those responsible for the attacks.

The PSNI has made a number of arrests in the city linked to shooting incidents in January and March this year. However, all those arrested were subsequently released without charge.
