A CYCLIST in his 20s remained critically ill in hospital last night following a crash in Co Derry on Thursday.

The crash between a transit van and a bicycle happened on the Glenshane Road at around 8.30am near the turn off for Maghera.

The man remained in a critical condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast late yesterday.

The driver of the van was arrested on suspicion of causing death or grievous bodily injury by careless driving.

He has since been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact them.
