THE family of a woman left with serious injuries by garda killer Adrian Crevan Mackin have re-iterated their call for a full public inquiry on the second anniversary of the shooting.

Garda Tony Golden was murdered by Crevan Mackin on October 11, 2015, as he accompanied Siobhán Phillips - who is to undergo plastic surgery as her recovery continues - to collect her belongings from the house in Omeath, Co Louth, after she had made a complaint of domestic abuse.

Mackin, who was born in the Newry area, then killed himself.

An RTÉ investigation earlier this year raised concerns that the 25-year-old, who had been facing a charge of IRA membership and was out on bail, may have been operating as a Garda informer.

Ms Phillips father, Seán told The Irish News: "The PSNI officer that we saw in Daisy Hill couldn't believe that the Garda (in Dundalk) wouldn't take a statement. He said that every police officer knew who Crevan Mackin was, that he was a dangerous piece of work.

"Then also that night in Omeath we flagged down a Garda car but they refused to take a statement - twice in 24 hours Garda had refused to do so.

"We want some good to come out of this entire mess. We want better practices put in place by Garda for victims of domestic violence."

Mr Phillips added: "On October 18, we are going to the Dáil and inviting TDs and senators of all parties to meet with us, to ask for their help."
