An investigation has begun after as explosion at a power station in Derry.

Firefighters were called to Lisahally Biomass Power Plant at 730pm on Sunday after reports of a ruptured steam pipe.

A command team, along with four pumps and aerial unit were sent.

Nobody was injured.

Fire commander Mark Watson said: "After the area was cleared, fire service personnel, along with on-site safety personnel, inspected the area and we believed the cause of the ruptured steam main to be accidental.

"It's not 100% clear at this stage - there will be further investigations carried out by on-site safety personnel."

The heat, power and biomass power plant was built on a 10-acre green field site near Derry Port in 2014.

It houses boiler and turbine buildings, a 33kv substation and storage for a range of equipment, as well as stack, transformers, conveyors, fans and silencers.
