Man tasered by police during shop incident in Newtownabbey.

Specially-trained police officers used a taser to restrain a man during an incident at a house in Newtownabbey.

The officers were called shortly before 5pm on Wednesday after a man armed with a machete entered a shop in the Mill Road area.

Police said a taser gun was deployed by a police officer "to prevent further harm to the person and members of the public".

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assault on police. He was taken to hospital for assessment.

Police have appealed for information.
