Country stars Daniel O'Donnell and Nathan Carter played to a sell out crowd in Donegal last night in a huge fundraising concert to help victims of last week's flooding.

The Letterkenny fundraising concert was organised by Flood Aid For Inishowen - with all proceeds going to the Irish Red Cross flood appeal.

All of the artists taking part donated their time free of charge for the 30 Euro a ticket concert that attracted fans from north and south of the border.

Concert goers queued outside the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny from early yesterday afternoon for the mammoth concert hosted by TV3 personality Noel Cunningham.

Johnny Brady along with Dominic and Barry Kirwan and local singing star Jacqui Sharkey were also on the bill.

Daniel O'Donnell said he decided to take part in the concert after seeing the devastation the floods had caused to families in Donegal.

Large areas of Inishowen were left devastated after a severe deluge of rain fell over the northwest last week.

The floods made 47 families homeless in the Inishowen area, with some of those unlikely to be able to return to their homes for some considerable time due to the extent of the damage.

The Irish army was called in to help with the relief effort and help rebuild some essential roads that gave way following the freak floods.

More than 300 different parts of the 1,500km road network across the Inishowen peninsula in Co Donegal were damaged by last Tuesday's flooding, with the repair bill expected to run into millions of euros.

O'Donnell who is from Donegal, spent over an hour before the the concert with fans queuing outside signing autographs and having pictures taken.

Speaking before the fundraiser he said he was shocked by the devastation " thank God nobody lost their lives", he said.

"As well as the money raised we hope the people of Inishowen will derive some sort of comfort from this show of support and that their plight is being heard."
