BELFAST is one of the best value university cities based on what students really spend their cash on.

Student website Unidays created a top ten list of items young people buy every month and mapped these costs across the UK's biggest university towns and cities.

These included foods including pizzas and curry, taxi journeys, spin classes and spray tans.

London came out the most expensive place to live, with a total cost of all 10 items coming in at £91.90. Belfast was among the cheapest, the items totalling £59.59.

Alex Gallagher, Unidays chief marketing officer, said value for money was a big concern.

"Tuition fees and rent is just one part of this equation, and based on what they are actually buying, we can see how the costs can stack up across different parts of the country.
