INDEPENDENT councillor Jolene Bunting says she was contacted by an anonymous caller who threatened to shoot her less than 24 hours after posting about MMA champion Conor McGregor.

The Dublin born fighter lost out to world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather in the tenth round of a much anticipated Las Vegas show fight on Saturday night.

The controversial councillor, who hosted a Belfast rally involving far right organisation Britain First earlier this month said she was called on Sunday from an unknown number "the caller said 'your going to get shot' (sic) I must have annoyed some nice, tolerant, peace loving, Republican out there somewhere".

It came less than 24 hours after she posted a comment about the Las Vegas fight saying "McGregor failed, just like his Provo mates. Thank you Floyd Mayweather from Loyal Ulster. No Surrender".

Ms Bunting, who became the city's first TUV councillor in 2014, resigned from the party in February 2017.

It is understood she decided to leave the party after she was not selected to stand as an assembly candidate.

Shortly after she was elected to the city council, it emerged she had made sectarian comments online in 2011.

The councillor later apologised for her remarks.

Earlier this month she hosted a rally at city hall attended by Paul Golding of Britain First, the PSNI say they are reviewing footage of the gathering to see if any crimes were committed.
