A SCHOOL in Co Armagh says it has made arrangements to offer pupils "specialist support" following the sudden death of a 16-year-old boy.

Shane Richardson died on Tuesday after being found in his family home in the Brownstown Road area of Portadown.

Police are investigating and a post mortem examination is being carried out to establish the cause of death.

It is believed one line of inquiry is whether his death could be linked to drugs or other substances.

His death is the fourth possible drug-related tragedy in recent days.

The teenager attended Craigavon Senior High School and was set to receive his GCSE results today.

It comes just months after the school suffered the loss of another pupil, 15-year-old Caitlin White (Shortland).

She died in May after collapsing in woodlands near Portadown's Corcrain estate following a suspected drugs overdose.

The teenagers were in the same friendship circles and were friends with each other on Facebook.

Paula Downing, principal of Craigavon Senior High School, yesterday expressed her sympathies with Shane's family and friends.

In a statement issued through the Education Authority, she said: "Our entire school community is deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of one of our Year 12 pupils.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very difficult time.

"The school has put arrangements in place to ensure that specialist support is available help pupils come to terms with this tragic loss. We are making every effort to ensure that they are fully supported."
