POLICE have been attacked with petrol bombs while guarding the scene of the murder of a 45-year-old man in Lurgan on Wednesday.

A static patrol outside a block of flats in Victoria Street area of the Co Armagh town came under attack shortly after 9pm.

A man had been found dead in a flat at the housing complex on Sunday.

The victim's twin brother had been arrested and questioned following the discovery of the body. He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

It is understood that the brothers are originally from Lithuania.

The flats are the same complex where 31-year-old Laura Marshall was found dead in April 2016.

No one was injured in the petrol bomb attack.

Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said: “The petrol bombs struck the road and thankfully there was no damage to property and no injuries.

"Additional officers attended the area however there were no further incidents".

In January 2016 police were forced to preserve a crime scene in north Belfast where father-of-two Conor McKee was murdered by boarding up the house, as the area was deemed too dangerous for an overnight static police patrol.

Mr McKee was shot in the bedroom of his parents' house at Glenpark Street in the Oldpark area by dissident republicans.

Police forensic officers examined the murder scene during daylight hours, but due to the high risk of attack on officers, the house was boarded up with metal shutters to preserve the scene.
