A CAR park at a popular Co Fermanagh beauty spot has been closed to visitors amid a dispute.

The parking spot at Cuilcagh Mountain wooden walkway was shut today following a land dispute with a farmer.

Several walkers who had parked at the site early yesterday morning found their cars locked in.

The walkway has proved popular with visitors since it opened in July 2015.

The 'stairway to heaven', which has a summit of 666m, was built to protect the area's blanket bog and restore peatland that had been eroded.

However the walkway, which gives visitors spectacular views across the bog, has also encouraged a huge increase in tourism.

Before 2016, fewer than 3,000 walkers visited the site. But last year around 24,000 people visited the area.
