POLICE in Scotland are investigating photographs of a flute band-organised fancy dress party in which people dressed up as Hitler and the Pope.

The party held in an Orange hall sparked anger after it was won by a man and woman dressed as Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun accompanied by two children wearing rags branded with a yellow star.

Another image posted online showed someone dressed as the Pope with a noose around his neck.

The photographs were posted on the Whinhall True Blues Flute Band Facebook page and taken at Halloween parties held in the Airdrie and District Orange Hall and Social Club.

While the images are understood to have been taken between 2010 and 2013, the Sunday Herald in Scotland reported that photographs had been passed to police and officers were now investigating.

The Scottish Council of Jewish Communities and Catholic Church were among those to condemn the images.

A Catholic Church in Scotland spokesman said: "The violent imagery depicted in these photographs reflects an extremely disturbing and hateful attitude towards Catholics and other faith minorities.

Police Scotland told the Sunday Herald that information had been passed to relevant officers to establish the facts and identify any criminality.

"Police Scotland takes all reports of hate incidents seriously and will investigate such reports appropriately and proportionately," a spokesman said.
