THE Gobbins cliff path in Co Antrim is due to re-open today after months of more than a year of repair work.
Most of the 2km cliff path walk in Islandmagee will open for July and August, with the exception of an end section where engineering work has temporarily ceased due to the bird nesting season.
Work on the path will restart again in the Autumn to prepare the project for full operation from April 2018.
The popular tourist attraction was given a new lease of life in 2015, but was forced to close last year after extreme weather conditions caused higher levels of rock fall along the path.
The path briefly reopened over the 2016 May Day weekend, but closed again for essential maintenance to prevent rock falls.
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council had budgeted around £2 million for its maintenance work, including work to restore the access path following Storm Frank in 2015.
However, it is feared that costs for repairs will reach several million more.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Paul Reid said: "We have strong forward bookings from visitors from across the world and I look forward to introducing them to this must see attraction which has been acknowledged as one of the most ambitious tourism projects undertaken in the UK and Ireland in recent years".
The Gobbins will open today and remain in operation for seven days a week until September 1.
