Four homes burgled in two towns in Co Down over five hour period

Police are treating the four burglaries in Hillsborough and Ballynahinch as linked

POLICE have said they are treating the burglaries of four homes in two towns in Co Down over a spate of five hours as linked.

The houses were targeted in Ballynahinch and Hillsborough between 3.30pm and 8.30pm on Friday.

Detective Sergeant Melanie McGrory said two vacant properties at Cherryhill Road and Glassdrumman Road in Ballynahinch were entered and items stolen.

Later at Windmill Road in Hillsborough and Horner's Road in Ballynahinch, the gang entered two houses with elderly occupants inside. Nothing was taken from either house but the householders were left shaken.

"We believe two men are involved, one of whom was described as being aged in his 20s or early 30s, of slim build, around 5ft 5in tall with long, dark scruffy hair," the officer said.

"We also believe the men were travelling in a small black car with southern registration plates. We are treating the burglaries as linked."

Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact officers on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
