Officers to stand trial in misconduct case

THREE police officers are to stand trial in September on charges of misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.

The three include Harry McMahon (48), with an address at Dungannon PSNI Station, Thomas Geoffrey Ellis, (52) whose address was given as Cookstown PSNI Station and 48-year-old David Power, with an address at Sprucefield PSNI station.

The officers are alleged to have acted illegally by removing contents from a locker inside Cookstown police station in July 2012.

The allegations surround the locker of Mr Ellis.

All three pleaded not guilty to the charges after appearing before Judge Stephen Fowler at yesterday’s sitting in Dungannon.

A trial date of September 25 has been set for the three.

Two police officers meanwhile are to stand trial accused of lying in witness statements.

Conor Creelan and Roy Lucas confirmed they were aware of the charges against them when they appeared yesterday at Armagh Magistrates Court.

The officers, whose address were given as c/o Armagh PSNI Station, are accused of perverting the course of justice on June 22 2015.

It has been alleged they made false witness statements about an incident a week earlier.

None of the details relating to the charges were outlined in court.

Creelan and Lucas were released on bail and will appear again at Newry Crown Court on September 12.
