A MAN with the same name as a Conservative councillor who resigned after tweeting about "gypsies" and "a hard border coming" in anger at Ireland not awarding the UK any Eurovision points, has been inundated with abuse on social media.

After the UK's Lucie Jones received no points from Ireland last Saturday, Nick Harrington, a member of Warwick District Council, tweeted: "#Eurovision 2017 thanks Ireland. You can keep your f***ing gypsies! Hard border coming folks!"

Mr Harrington, who is under investigation by police for the remarks, resigned as a councillor and quit his position as a magistrate in Warwickshire on Wednesday after apologising "unreservedly" for his comments.

However, another Nick Harrington, the chief executive officer of global consultancy firm Eximius, which has offices in London and Hong Kong, received abuse including a tweet referring to him as a "Tory anti-Irish gobsh*te".

Mr Harrington replied: "Just a quick one... I'm not a Tory MP, I am a lover of Ireland but I am as confused as everyone else about Eurovision."
