A TOP London professor is to provide a medical report in the case of a teenage student accused of the unlawful killing of a 13 year-old Belcoo schoolboy.

Francis McDermott (19) of Camphill Park, Newtownbutler in Co Fermanagh, denies killing schoolboy Oisin McGrath who died four days after an incident at St Michael’s College, Enniskillen, in February 2015.

In February he pleaded not guilty to manslaughter.

McDermott's defence team had been given until after the Easter recess to find a new medical expert after the Republic's State Pathologist, Professor Marie Cassidy, returned the case papers, saying that she felt it was "outside her field of expertise".

Today defence QC Martin Rodgers told Dungannon Crown Court that Mark Wilson, a professor based at Imperial College in London, was prepared to submit a report.

Mr Rodgers said that although they were awaiting legal aid, the top neuro-vascular expert hoped to have a report within three to four weeks.

However, this was dependant on the medical expert being furnished with all medical reports in the case, which are expected from the prosecution shortly.

Judge Stephen Fowler QC, while adjourning the hearing for a further review until June 16, however said that if the report becomes available before then, the court should be informed.

As in previous review hearings, McDermott was excused having to attend.

The 19 year-old, who was a sixth former at the same school as Oisin at the time of the incident, denies manslaughter.

A previous court hearing was told what happened had "devastated two families".

The now university student, from Camphill Park, Newtownbutler, who was 17 at the time of Oisin's death, is currently on his own bail of £500.
