Boxer's mother accused of bringing drugs to jail

THE mother of a boxer who once fought for Ireland has appeared in court accused of bringing drugs into jail.

Helen Arlene McKee (43), from Cliftonpark Avenue in north Belfast, faced two charges at Lisburn Magistrates Court today.

She is accused of possessing drugs on November 26, 2015 and bringing them into Maghaberry prison.

Charged alongside her was her son, 25-year-old Brendan Patrick McKee, who is accused of having drugs in jail.

He confirmed he understood two charges against him alleging that he had class B cannabis and class C painkiller Buprenorphine on the same date.

The defendants were given the opportunity to comment on their respective charges or call witnesses to give evidence but they opted to remain silent.

Remanding Mr McKee, from Manor Street in Belfast, back into custody and freeing Ms McKee on bail, District Judge Rosie Watters returned the case to Craigavon Crown Court and ordered the pair to appear on June 6 for their arraignment.
