A young father died when his car was in a collision with a lorry in Co Antrim yesterday morning.

Emmanuel (Manuel) Caddell (22) from west Belfast was driving an Audi which was involved in a crash on Manse Road at its junction with Nutts Corner Road near Crumlin at around 10.50am.

The driver of the lorry was not injured.

Mr Caddell, a boxing enthusiast with links to the Clonard club in west Belfast, was in his mid-twenties and leaves a young daughter and a partner.

Friends paid tribute to him on social media.

"Very close family friend since I was born. Such a gentleman. I'm sure you'll look over your family bro, took from home but not from our hearts mate, will always cherish the memories I've shared with you," one wrote.

Another friend who lives in Australia wrote: "Devastated hearing terrible news coming from back home these last 2 weeks. Too many young lives being lost. RIP Manuel mate, Gentleman."

Police appealed to anyone who was travelling on the Nutts Corner Road or Manse Road yesterday morning and who saw the collision to contact officers on 101.

The roads were closed for several hours yesterday.
