Woman and children escape injury in Derry house attack

A woman and two young children were at home when shots were fired at a house in Derry, it has been revealed.

The owner of the house at Cornshell Fields in the Shantallow area said he has no idea why his home was targeted.

No-one was injured when a number of shots were fired at the house around 11pm Monday evening.

The PSNI has urged anyone who noticed a white vehicle in the area at the time to contact them.

SDLP leader Colum Eastwood described those responsible as “criminal thugs” who should face justice.

“Those who have once again brought violence to the streets of our city stand alone and they stand against the people of Ireland.”

Sinn Féin councillor and assembly election candidate, Elisha McCallion called on anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
