Name of Coleraine and Donegal crash victims released

THE funeral is due to take place tomorrow of a woman who was hit by a car after she is believed to have fallen in a Co Derry car park.

Jill Elder (43) from Kilrea area died following the accident in the Railway Place car park in Coleraine. It is understood Ms Elder had just left the town's train station and fell over as she walked in the car park on Friday at around 9pm.

IT is believed a vehicle ran over her as she lay on the ground leaving her trapped underneath the car.

Ms Elder had only recently returned to Northern Ireland after living and working in England for some time.

Tributes were paid by friends who described Ms Elder as "such a lovely woman".

One friend wrote: "Jill you where such a great women inside and out and a brilliant neighbour", while another said Ms Elder was "one of life's good ones".

Meanwhile, the name of the young man who died in an early morning road crash in Co Donegal has been released.

Joseph McGettigan (21), who will be buried tomorrow, was killed after his van crashed at Cottian, outside his home town of Kilmacrennan in the early hours of Saturday. He died at Letterkenny University Hospital. No other vehicles were involved.

Mr McGettigan, who ran his own fitting insulation business, was described as "well known and popular" in the area.

He was one of eight children and his father Lawrence is a well-known developer in the area.

It is understood that weather conditions were poor on the night of the crash with a lot of surface rainwater on the roads.
