THE first images of a new transport hub for Belfast have been revealed.

The Belfast Hub will serve as a main bus and train connection point for all parts of Northern Ireland and the main rail link to Dublin.

It will be located on the existing Europa Buscentre and Great Victoria Street Train Station. Construction is due to begin in 2019 and it expected to open by 2021.

A public consultation last year attracted almost 2,000 responses with a majority (88 per cent) supporting the principle of the new integrated public transport hub.

Translink has now revealed the latest designs and has invited the public to share their views ahead of planning permission.

"This world-class Belfast Hub development will energise our city and become the main transport hub for Northern Ireland. It will act as a catalyst for regeneration, connecting and inspiring more people to live and work here," said Translink group chief executive Chris Conway.

"This is an innovative and ambitious project that will provide a gateway to Belfast for commuters and tourists; a main bus and train connection point for all parts of Northern Ireland and the main rail link to Dublin, including direct connections to all major airports in Belfast and Dublin."
