A 39-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court after police found a gun and cocaine worth £200,000 in his roof space.

David Agnew, of Carby Heights in Keady, Co Armagh, was arrested at his home on Friday.

Newry Magistrate's Court heard today that when police searched the house with a warrant they found the gun and 2.5kg of cocaine, along with up to £170,000 in cash in a footstool in the living room and up to £50,000 wrapped in thousand-pound bundles in a bedroom.

When police first came into his house they asked him if he had anything they needed to know about. The court heard Agnew suggested there was but told police "you'll have to find it".

During the search, police found a handgun with a magazine loaded with five or six bullets and a silencer.

A second silencer was found elsewhere in the house along with a plastic container containing a substance that tested positive for cocaine.

Agnew was later charged with having cocaine, a handgun and bundles of cash which the police believe were the proceeds of crime.

He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to appear in court again via video link next month.
