POLICE say they are following a definite line of enquiry after a 60-year-old man was targeted in a gun attack at his home in the Poyntzpass area of Co Armagh.

The man was shot a number of times through a rear window of the property on the Tullymore Road shortly after 10.20pm on Thursday.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police forensic officers spent most the day yesterday at the house which has visible security measures including CCTV cameras and lights fitted around the rural property.

The PSNI say they are following a very definite line of enquiry.

The shooting is not thought to be paramilitary-related. Local sources say the attack may have been a result of a personal dispute.

Alliance Party member Jackie Coade condemned the shooting saying it could have "resulted in the loss of life, and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms".

"We had hoped that violence was behind us, but evil people continue to terrorise under cover of darkness."

Detective Inspector Stephen Harvey from the PSNI Reactive and Organised Crime branch based in Lurgan said: "Detectives are following a definite line of enquiry and would appeal to anyone with any information to contact them at Lurgan police station on 101 quoting reference number 1245 of 09/02/17 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111".
