NOBEL laureate Mairead Maguire has nominated the co-founder of a women's-led peace group for the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize.

In a letter to the Nobel Peace Committee in Oslo, Ms Maguire described Medea Benjamin, one of the driving forces behind Codepink and a co-founder of human rights group, Global Exchange, as a "worthy recipient" of the highly respected prize.

Ms Maguire, who won the Nobel prize in 1976 for her work with the Peace People following the deaths of three of her sister's children when they were hit by the car driven by an IRA man who had been shot dead by a British army patrol, said Ms Benjamin's "work for peace and disarmament and life commitment to such work is inspirational to all of us".
