THOUGHTS and prayers have been offered for the family of a teenager who was found dead at a west Belfast apartment.

Gerard Robert Hall (19), was discovered lifeless in a bed at an address in Avoca Court on Upper Springfield Road on Thursday.

A PSNI spokesman said that a post-mortem examination has yet to take place to determine the cause of death.

“There are no further details available at this time,” he added on Friday.

Speaking with the Irish News, Gerard’s friend Sean Darragh described him as a “down-to-earth guy”, who regularly trained in mixed martial arts. The talented teen was also a DJ in his spare time.

“He was genuinely a one-of-a-kind person, who never had a bad word to say about anyone, and I never met anyone who said anything bad about him,” Sean said.

“We will all miss him so much and we can’t believe he is gone.”

Sinn Féin councillor Steven Corr said the death was a “hard blow” to the west Belfast community

Cllr Corr said: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone in this community and far beyond are with these grieving families.

“These losses are all the more tragic having occurred at Christmas, which is supposed to be a time for joy and happiness.”
