A MAN is in intensive care after being found unconscious along with two other men in south Belfast following a suspected drugs overdose.

The three were discovered in Donegall Pass close to Botanic Avenue just before 9pm on Saturday.

Police said the men collapsed in the street from a "suspected overdose".

The three were treated at the scene before being transferred to hospital.

The Belfast Health Trust said on Sunday night that one of the men is in a critical condition and is being treated in the intensive care unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

In a social media post, the PSNI said: "This clearly could have had dire consequences for those involved".

It comes after a spate of deaths linked to drugs overdoses in the past six weeks.

At the end of October, an uncle and a nephew in Newtownabbey, and Amy Reid (21) from Co Tyrone, died in separate incidents in a 24-hour period.

Just three weeks ago, the body of Darren Taylor (39), also thought to have taken drugs, was found in the same flat in Coagh as Miss Reid.
