A CO Tyrone man made up a story about a banshee to lure his young victim into bed, a court heard yesterday.

The allegation was made as a 41-year-old man went on trial at Dungannon Crown Court charged with 63 counts of historical sexual offences against boys.

The accused, who is from Dungannon, but cannot be identified for legal reasons, denies the offences which are alleged to occurred on various dates between 1996 and 2003, and involved four boys.

There are 37 charges of indecent assault and 26 of gross indecency.

During cross-examination on Monday, the first alleged victim told the court the accused made up a story about a banshee in order to lure him into bed.

The man told the court the accused sometimes stayed at a particular house, where the alleged victims also spent weekends.

It was claimed he invented a story about a banshee in order to get the victim into his bed.

It was claimed the accused would sometimes have a boy either side of him in the bed, and he would “tickle and play with one sexually before turning to the other and do the same.”

The victim also alleged during one incident he was in the shower and the accused touched him “from top to bottom”.

“He was all over me. Touching and feeling. Touching and feeling. It lasted a long, long time," he said.

However, a lawyer for the accused insisted his client had not stayed at the house during the times in question.

He also questioned whether the alleged victim had ever been in the shower at the house.

“I put it to you, you never had a shower in that house. The shower had a problem. It would suddenly become very hot whilst and running and you would have had to get out. But you do not recall any of that," the lawyer said suggesting he was "never abused".

The man, who was agitated and distressed throughout cross-examination replied: “It mustn’t have happened in my time" insisting he was abused at the times he claimed.

The trial continues.
