Órlaithí Flynn is new Sinn Féin MLA for West Belfast

Orlaithí Flynn has been co-opted to replace Jennifer McCann on the Sinn Féin benches

A FORMER political adviser to a number of Sinn Féin MLAs was last night named as the party's new Stormont representative for West Belfast.

Órlaithí Flynn (28), from the Colin area of the city, will replace Jennifer McCann following the former junior minister's decision to leave frontline politics.

Ms Flynn was the only candidate put forward for co-option and her selection is expected to be rubber stamped by the Sinn Féin Ard Comhairle tomorrow.

She is the daughter of prominent west Belfast republican Patrick Flynn.

A former St Dominic's pupil, Ms Flynn is long-time Sinn Féin activist who has a Masters in Irish Politics from Queen's University.

She previously worked as an adviser to Rosie McCorley, Sue Ramsey and most recently Alex Maskey.
