A MEMORIAL to three soldiers murdered by the IRA in north Belfast has been vandalised.

Black paint was thrown over the monument dedicated to brothers John and Joseph McCaig, 17 and 18 from Ayr, and their colleague Dougald McCaughey (23) from Glasgow who were shot dead in 1971.

The monument on Ballysillan Avenue was vandalised on Thursday.

Politicians including SDLP MLA Nichola Mallon, DUP MLA Nelson McCausland, Ulster Unionist MLA Andy Allen and Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn criticised the attack.
