TYRONE footballer Cathal McCarron cancelled an appearance on BBC's Nolan Live TV show last night just hours before he was due to go on air.

A BBC spokesman said the GAA star's publicist had informed it that "Cathal is ill and unfortunately is unable to appear on tonight’s programme".

The cancellation comes after McCarron was dropped from the line-up of RTE's The Late Late Show last week when the father of a 15-year-old girl he met through a dating app voiced outrage.

The 28-year-old had been due to discuss his new autobiography Out of Control, describing his battle with gambling addiction which at one point saw him appear in gay pornography to earn cash.

He also tells how he was questioned by gardaí over the meeting with the teenager last year, although prosecutors decided not to pursue the matter. McCarron said he did not realise the girl was underage.

The scheduled appearance on Stephen Nolan's TV show came on the same night as a Tyrone GAA celebration in Cookstown's Glenavon Hotel.

McCarron did not attend the event, which saw the presentation of medals to players.
