THE Derry Walls were lit up at the weekend as the city kicked off its Halloween celebrations in style.

Derry once again stole the show as towns and cities across the north prepare to mark Halloween on Monday evening.

Thousands turned out on the banks of the River Foyle as performance artists showed off their costumes as part of a major three day party.

Marking its 30th anniversary, Derry demonstrated its credentials as a leading global Halloween destination with a spectacular carnival.

The 'Awakening the Walls' event saw music, fire and performance around the city's Walls, while street vendors catered to all tastes with a series of ghoulish treats.

With the city's parade believed to be the biggest in Europe, a major fireworks display will mark the end of the celebrations tonight at 8pm.

In Belfast, the annual Monster Mash saw families gather for some spooky fun at the Titanic slipways on Sunday, with street theatre, music and a fireworks display.
