ONE of the world's leading bookmakers was among several outlets to suspend betting on Tuesday on a football game involving the PSNI.

Paddy Power Betfair suspended all bets on its website ahead of Tuesday night's Co Antrim Shield quarter-final between the PSNI and Albert Foundry at Seaview.

The match was also unavailable for betting with other bookmakers, including William Hill and Coral.

Not all bookmakers cancelled bets on the game, with Bet 365 and Toals amongst those continuing to offer odds throughout Tuesday.

The PSNI, which plays at a higher league level than its opponents, would have been considered slight favourites ahead of the match.

It is understood that the suspension was not linked to direct concerns about the game itself, but rather that a calculation by bookmakers of odds of 4/1 for Albert Foundry were seen as too generous by many observers.

Sports journalist Keith Bailie tweeted: "This basically boils down to bookmakers not doing their homework. Foundry at 4/1 is bonkers."

The PSNI Football Club said: "Pleased to note no evidence of any wrong doing in relation to game."

Paddy Power Betfair did not respond to a request for comment.
