Plans for new build Craigavon Hospital in first stages, health minister confirms
THE Southern Health Trust has submitted business plans for a new hospital build on the site of the current Craigavon Area Hospital.
Health Minister Michelle O'Neill said the plans would have to be consulted and ratified by both her department and the Department of Finance.
The minister said: "The Southern Trust has presented a business case to the Department of Health for a new hospital build on the Craigavon Area Hospital site; the business case will require both Department of Finance and departmental approval.
"Decisions on this plan will be considered alongside other capital investment priorities and will be dependent on future budget availability, value for money and affordability."
The minister was responding to a written Assembly question from DUP Upper Bann MLA Carla Lockhart.
The news comes as work is ongoing on a £6.9 million paediatric unit in the main car park at the hospital.
Work began on the site in the spring and is expected to be completed in September next year.
