A 19-YEAR-OLD man has died following an incident on Belfast's Westlink in the vicinity of the Divis Street Bridge on Thursday night.

The man has been named locally as Nathan Ritchie from Bangor.

An outpouring of sympathy has been expressed on social media following the sudden death with friends describing their sadness and disbelief at the tragedy.

One friend described Mr Ritchie as a "good lad all round" , while many recalled fond memories from school days at Bangor Academy.

The Westlink was closed to traffic in both directions on Thursday evening for a number of hours following the incident and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

PSNI Inspector McCullough has urged anyone who was in the area on Thursday night between 9.45pm and 10pm and witnessed anything to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.
