MOURNERS gathered yesterday at the funeral of an 11-year-old boy described as a "star pupil" by family and friends.

Requiem Mass for Leon Carlisle was celebrated at Corpus Christi church in the Ballymurphy area of west Belfast.

He died in a tragic accident at his home in New Barnsley on Wednesday night.

A past pupil of Holy Trinity Primary School, Leon had recently begun Year 8 at St Mary's Christian Brothers' Grammar School.

Holy Trinity said Leon was a "star pupil and was loved by all who met him".
