MORE than 100,000 spectators descended on Portrush over the weekend for an aerial display from some of the world's most iconic flying machines.

Air Waves Portrush, Ireland's largest air show, saw appearances from the RAF Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial trio of Spitfire, a Lancaster bomber and a World War II Hurricane.

Also drawing eyes skyward were the jaw-dropping manoeuvres of a Typhoon jet, the aerobatics of the Wildcats display team and some old school spills and thrills from the Muscle biplane.

Organised by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, the show's first day concluded with a one-off pyrotechnic aerial show in nearby Portstewart.
