ROADS officials remain at odds with a Co Tyrone building firm over a 'moat' housing development facing enforcement proceedings.

It comes as the head of the company spoke out to dismiss concerns over the 30-house development near Coalisland.

Built in an area prone to flooding, the estate on Moor Road has a water trench and a bridge.

Planning permission was granted with measures aimed at reducing the flood risk to neighbouring land and property.

However, planners are pursuing enforcement over concerns that not all the required flood-prevention measures have been completed.

Nearby residents fear their homes, which have suffered flooding in the past, could be at even greater risk.

The developer Western Buildings Systems has insisted the site is not a flood risk, saying it is awaiting approvals from roads officials to finish the works.

But TransportNI, formerly known as the Roads Service, says it is awaiting further details from the developer.

Western's managing director Martin McCloskey said the site had an "intense flood risk assessment" and a drainage system has been installed.

He said the firm was awaiting approval from TransportNI for a culvert at Moor Road.

"The Moor Road crossing will be completed when TransportNI have given their technical approval," he said in a statement.

"The planning service are aware that Western are ready and willing to complete the drainage works, but cannot do so without the permission and consent of Transport NI."

The Department for Infrastructure last night again referred to its statement earlier this month on behalf of TransportNI.

It said officials had requested further information in 2014 but that "no reply has been received to these requests, therefore no approval in principle has been granted".
