A TYRONE family has been hit with a second tragedy after Shane Rafferty was killed in a road crash - eight years after his father died in another road traffic collision.

The father-of-four - known has Rocky - was driving his white Ford Transit van when it was involved in a crash on the Tullyvar Road outside Aughnacloy at around 8.30pm on Saturday.

No other vehicles were involved.

The 41-year-old was from Altnaglushan, Galbally near Dungannon.

Sinn Fein MLA Michelle Gildernew said it was "an absolute tragedy" for the Rafferty family.

Shane's father John Rafferty was killed when he lost control of his vehicle at a junction near Castlecauflield in 2008.

The building contractor had been on his way back to Dublin at the time.

"My heart and condolences just go out to his mother Briege," said Ms Gildernew.

"Shane was just a lovely man, big handsome fella.

"It is just heartbreaking."

Mr Rafferty, who had three brothers and a sister, leaves four children, Ciaran, Shauna, Kevin and PJ.

Friends and family took to Facebook on Sunday to pay tribute to Mr Rafferty as news of his death came known.

Aidan Nugent simply said: "Sad sad news, RIP Rocky". Another, James Rafferty called him a "great great lad".
